The creative process is a very intriguing thing to me and one I am constantly analysing, especially when looking for inspiration form other artists, be it in film, art, music or whatever.
What I've found works for me is that the quicker I make a decision the better the decision seems to be. Like when it comes to doing something creatively decisive on a canvas or in an editing programmer, that initial little "spark" idea that gets me stoked is the thing I'm better off running with. If I stop and over analyse things I end up procrastinating, getting less done and getting less quality in the end result.
When I'm painting music is pretty much essential to keeping the flow going, if it gets to stage where for some reason or another the music stops or changes without me noticing it, I'll start to notice that I'm suddenly not feeling an idea or not as amped as I was on the initial idea I had- So a good playlist or series of albums queued up is pretty essential for me. Right now I'm going through some nice Motown, including some pretty amazing Issac Hayes stuff, which got me thinking about how Issac came to creating so many amazing pieces of music (usually about ridin')
I came to the conclusion that I usually do with these things, and that's if you stick to what you know, or what genuinely inspires you and not what you think others will like then you can produce something pretty original that is true to yourself. As you can see, Issac was not a shy bloke, or a shameful one, and most definitely was preoccupied by sex and I think it really shows through in his music. So, y'know, you are who you are, don't deny it but instead run with it, don't bother trying to fit into someone else's skin, or gold chain vest.
